Your Glow-Ready Guide: Prep, Appointment Tips & Aftercare

Pre-Tan Skin Prep for the Best Results

🛁 Shower & Exfoliate

  • Exfoliate 24 hours before your appointment using an exfoliating mitt and focusing on dry areas.
  • Use gel-based soaps (e.g., Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash). Avoid oil-based exfoliants and Dove soap, as they can leave a residue that blocks the tanning solution.
  • Stay away from products containing mineral oils, petroleum, perfume, alcohol, or sulfates.

🪒 Shaving & Waxing

  • Schedule waxing or shaving 24-48 hours before your spray tan.
  • If using shaving cream, rinse thoroughly to remove any residue that may interfere with tan absorption.

⚡ Laser Hair Removal

  • Do not get a spray tan before a laser treatment. The skin must be completely free of tan residue.
  • Schedule your spray tan at least 2 weeks before a laser session. After laser treatment, wait 1-2 weeks before tanning again to allow the skin to heal properly.

💅 Manicure, Pedicure & Lash Appointments

  • Complete all esthetic treatments (nails, brows, hair, facials) before your spray tan.
  • Lash extensions? No problem! Spray tanning does not affect them.

💆 Massage & Skin Treatments

  • Schedule massages at least 48 hours before your appointment to avoid stripping the tan.
  • Discontinue active skincare products (e.g., retinols, tretinoin, AHAs, BHAs, chemical exfoliants) 48 hours before your session to prevent uneven fading.

💧 Hydration & Moisturizing

  • Hydrated skin = a longer-lasting, even tan! Drink plenty of water and moisturize regularly leading up to your session.

☀️ Sun Protection (SPF)

  • Avoid sunburns—spray tanning cannot be applied to sunburned skin and may result in uneven fading.
  • Always wear SPF to protect your skin, as deep skin damage from sunburns can affect tan results for months.

✨ Following these steps ensures a flawless, long-lasting glow! ✨

Day of Your Spray Tan: What to Know for Best Results

🧴 Clean Skin

  • Arrive with clean skin—no makeup, lotions, oils, SPF, perfume, or deodorant. These products can create barriers that affect your tan's absorption and longevity.

👚 Wear Loose, Dark Clothing

  • Choose loose, dark clothing like sweatpants, a t-shirt, and sandals. Tight clothing (leggings, socks, or sneakers) can rub against your skin and affect the tan.
  • Dark clothing helps prevent any temporary bronzer stains from transferring onto your clothes.

☔ Raining? Be Prepared!

  • If it’s raining, be sure to bring an umbrella to protect your freshly applied tan from water or moisture.

👗 What to Wear During Your Tan

  • Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable—whether it’s a bra and underwear, bathing suit, or just underwear.
  • Men must wear a thong, boxers, or shorts.
  • If your spray tan is for a specific event, we recommend choosing attire that won’t create visible tan lines in your outfit.

Post-Tan Care: How to Maintain Your Glow

 ⏳ First 12 Hours

  • Allow your tan to fully develop for up to 24 hours.
  • Avoid sweating and limit skin-to-skin contact to prevent color transfer—keep your limbs separated for best results.
  • When washing your hands, scrub only your palms and moisturize afterward to maintain an even tan.

💧 Express Tan Care

  • Shower at the time discussed with your spray tan technician. Your tan will continue to darken even after your shower, and you’ll see the full results in 24 hours.
  • Don’t wait longer to shower unless advised. Wash your palms 30 minutes after tanning, pat dry, and moisturize your hands.

🚿 First Rinse

  • Take a lukewarm shower for your first rinse, just gently rinsing your body.
  • Avoid using body wash, shaving, or any other products during your first shower.

🛁 Pat Skin Dry

  • After each shower, gently pat your skin dry with a towel. Avoid rubbing to prevent uneven fading.

💧 Hydrate & Moisturize

  • Moisturize twice daily using lotions free of mineral oil, parabens, and sulfates to help maintain your tan’s evenness.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, which helps your skin stay in top condition.

☀️ Wear SPF

  • Spray tans do not provide sun protection. Always apply sunscreen to avoid sunburn and skin damage.
  • Use natural, organic sunscreens and apply gently to avoid rubbing off your tan.

🪒 Shaving

  • Shaving is possible after your tan, but wait a few days for the best results.
  • Use a new razor and avoid shaving creams or gels. Instead, use sulfate-free conditioner or gel body wash.

🧴 Exfoliate When Fading Begins

  • As your tan begins to fade (usually in 5-10 days), gently exfoliate and continue moisturizing to prepare for your next tan.

🗣️ Talk to Your Technician

  • For tan-prolonging products and personalized recommendations, consult with your spray tan technician.

How To Remove Your Spray Tan

 ⏳ After 5+ Days

  • Wait at least 5 days or until your tan is ready to be removed.
  • Soak in a bath or shower for 5 minutes to loosen the tan and open your pores.

🧴 Exfoliating Mitt

  • Use an exfoliating mitt with just water to gently buff away the tan.
  • For gentler exfoliation, you can add Epsom salts to your bath water.

✨ Gently exfoliating will ensure your skin stays smooth and your tan fades evenly! ✨

Products to Avoid for a Longer-Lasting Tan

To keep your spray tan looking fresh and glowing, avoid the following:

🚫 Soaps & Body Wash with Synthetic Fragrances

  • Do not use soaps or body washes with synthetic fragrances or alcohol, as these can strip the tan and cause premature fading.

🚫 Face Cleansers & Moisturizers with Active Ingredients

  • Avoid salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), glycolic acid, retin-A, retinol, alcohol, or perfume in your facial products, as these can speed up the fading process and strip moisture from your skin.

🚫 Long Hot Baths & Chlorinated Water

  • Hot baths and prolonged exposure to chlorinated water (like pools) can cause your tan to fade quickly. Opt for lukewarm showers instead.

🚫 Spray Perfume on Skin

  • Instead of spraying perfume directly onto your skin, apply it to your clothes to prevent it from interfering with your tan.

✨ Avoiding these products will help preserve your tan and keep your skin looking smooth and hydrated! ✨
