Your custom tan is still developing after your appointment, so proper aftercare is key to making it last beautifully. Follow these simple but essential steps:
Spray Tan Aftercare: How to Make Your Spray Tan Last Longer
Your spray tan continues to develop after your appointment, so following proper spray tan aftercare is essential for a smooth, natural-looking glow that lasts. Here are the key tips to help you maintain your flawless spray tan.
Avoid Water, Sweat, and Skin Contact Before Your First Rinse
To protect your spray tan, avoid showering, swimming, sweating, or skin-to-skin contact until your technician advises it’s time for your first rinse. Even when using the restroom, try hovering to prevent streaking and uneven fading.
Skip Intense Workouts and Heat Activities
Avoid activities that cause heavy sweating such as hot yoga, high-impact training , and saunas for at least 24 hours after your spray tan. Sweat and friction can cause your tan to fade prematurely.
First Rinse: Use Lukewarm Water and Be Gentle
When it’s time to rinse, use lukewarm water only and avoid soap or body wash. Gently rub your skin with your hands to remove the bronzer evenly. Check for streaks in the mirror, and if you notice any, rinse again to ensure a smooth finish.
Pat Your Skin Dry Without Rubbing
After rinsing, gently pat your skin dry with a towel instead of rubbing or scrubbing to protect your developing spray tan.
Moisturize Daily With Spray Tan Safe Products
Hydration is key to prolonging your spray tan. Use lotion formulated for spray tans that are sulfate-free and alcohol-free. Moisturize at least once a day, ideally twice, and drink plenty of water to keep your skin glowing from the inside out.
Avoid Harsh Skincare Ingredients
Steer clear of retinol, glycolic acid, and other strong exfoliating ingredients while your tan is developing. Vitamin C is safe in moderation, but avoid microneedling or deep skin treatments for 10 to 14 days after your spray tan.
Protect Your Tan From Perfume and Deodorant
Apply perfume to your clothes or hair instead of your skin, as alcohol in fragrance can break down your spray tan. Use a gentle, clean deodorant that won’t interfere with your glow.
Limit Exposure to Chlorine and Hot Tubs
Chlorine in pools and hot tubs can quickly fade your spray tan. If you’re swimming or vacationing, consider our long-lasting, sweat-resistant Viva Glow for a more durable glow.
Limit Intense Workouts
Try to avoid intense workouts like hot yoga, high-impact training, and time in saunas while your tan is still fresh. These activities speed up skin cell turnover and can cause your glow to fade faster. If you booked the Viva Glow feel free to get back to your regular routine sooner, but still be mindful and gentle with your skin to keep your results looking their best.
Always Wear Sunscreen
Remember, spray tans do not provide sun protection. Apply a natural, organic sunscreen gently to avoid rubbing off your tan and to protect your skin from UV damage.
